Inquiry #1: Revised Standard Specifications section 19 EARTHWORK, replaces section 19-4 ROCK EXCAVATION, indicating that the native material will require unconventional equipment and methods to remove the material down to finish grades; but there is not enough information to determine if hard rock will be encountered. Please advise if hard rock will be encountered within the cut areas on the job.

Response #1:Per Section “1-1.07B Glossary” of the 2015 Standard Specifications, the following definition applies:
“Material encountered below the natural ground surface in embankment areas . . . that the Engineer determines to be . . . inappropriate for the planned use.”
The planned use is stable and correct drainage contours.
