Precast Concrete Quality Control

Effective October 1, 2003, the Department - with significant input from industry representatives - implemented a new Precast Concrete Quality Control specification for the following items:

  • Piles
  • Girders
  • Deck Units
  • Mechanically Stablized Earth (MSE) panels

The new Standard Special Provision requires:

  • Successful completion of the Precast Concrete Fabrication Qualification Audit prior to commencing work on any of the above precast items
  • The Prime Contractor to designate a Quality Control Manager (QCM)
  • An approved Precast Concrete Quality Control Plan
  • Specific reporting requirements documenting the precasting operation
