Inquiry #1: The typical sections on sheets x-1 through x-4 show no excavation along the right shoulder other than for the type 736 barriers. The cross sections show excavation along the right shoulder from 48+87 to 64+60. The construction details and stage drawings show excavation for the barrier as roadway excavation. Is the excavation for Item 24 for the type 736 barrier only?

Response #2:See Addendum 1.

Inquiry #2: 1) The bid quantity (860 cy) for item no. 53 (Minor Concrete Island Paving) appears to be incorrect. The actual quantity is closer to 45 cy. Please verify the Caltrans quantity for this item.

2) Plan sheets C-7 - C-9 indicate "Roadway excavation, Z-2, ADL" at the right shoulder for the Concrete Barrier construction. Once we are below the 1-foot depth of Z-2 material, will the remaining excavation be paid for as "Roadway Excavation"?
It seems roadway exc is roadway exc., and we should be compensated for the entire volume of material as either item 24 or 25.

Inquiry #3: As a follow to inquiry #1, the cross sections provided detail the excavation at the RT shoulder as 8 feet wide. This does not coincide with the excavation limits shown on the ADL drawings C7-C9 -- which only show the excavation as the width of the concrete barrier.
Which is correct?

Inquiry #4: Drainage systems 5b & d, and 11b run along the outside shoulder of the highway. The work for these systems is quantified to include Structure Exc (Culvert), Rapid Strength Concrete Backfill, and HMA.
Similar system nos. 9d, 9k, and 9i also run along the outside shoulder of the highway, but do not include the Str Exc, concrete backfill or HMA as part of their work in the quantity tables at DQ-2. Why are these systems different than the ones mentioned in the paragraph above? They are all in the pavement area of the shoulder of the highway.

Response #2:The reason that Drainage Systems 5b, 5d and 11b use Rapid Strength Concrete Backfill is that they are too shallow for conventional methods. Systems 5b and 5d have Maximum Cover of 1.86 feet. System 11b has a Maximum Cover of 1.78 feet.

Please note that Addendum No. 1 has made Structure Excavation (Culvert) a Non-Pay Item.

Inquiry #5: The table for minor concrete on Sheet Q-2 indicates that B2-6 curb and gutter begins at Sta 43+13. Sheet L-1 shows the B2-6 curb beginning at Sta 46+13. Where is the B2-6 curb and gutter being constructed?

Response #2:The Minor Concrete table on Sheet Q-2 has a typo. The Type B2-6 curb and gutter at the Left Shoulder should be shown as "CE" 46+13 To 47+78. It is shown correctly on sheet L-1.

Inquiry #6: Why is there a gap in the typical cross sections from Sta 54+05 to Sta 61+82? Can Caltrans provide a typical cross section for this area?

Response #2:Bid per plans and specs.

Inquiry #7: DS 11B is shown to have rapid set backfill. Immediately upstream of that, DS 11J is not shown to have rapid set backfill, even though both pipe runs are located similarly in the shoulder. Should DS 11J also have rapid set backfill?
Inquiry submitted 11/01/2017

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.
Response posted 11/02/2017

Response #2:No, Drainage System 11j does not have Rapid Strength Concrete Backfill. The reason that Drainage System 11b uses Rapid Strength Concrete Backfill is that it is too shallow for conventional methods. System 11b has a Maximum Cover of 1.78 feet. System 11j has a Maximum Cover of 2.0 feet, which just meets the requirements to use conventional methods.

Inquiry #8: Electrical Plans call out ten (10) each Type 15 structure standards on the right shoulder concrete barrier. Retaining Wall Plans call out, and number, nine (9) each.
Which is correct?

Inquiry submitted 11/02/2017

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.

Response #2:There are ten (10) each Type 15 Light Standards. In this instance, the Electrical Plans are correct.
