Inquiry #3: Item 53 Clean Box Culvert, does the State have any video inspection information of the existing type and quantity of debris that needs to be cleaned from the culvert? Please provide any additional information for this work.
Inquiry submitted 10/11/2017

Response #1:Submitted for consideration.

Response #2:Caltrans did not order any video inspection for the debris, because it is believed that the existing box culvert is in good condition. However, it was noticed that quite a lot of debris have accumulated inside just by looking at the box culvert opening during several field visits.

A reasonable estimation of the debris to be removed can be done with visual inspection and the size of box culvert (6' x 3" and about 1100" long). It is anticipated that the debris are typical runoff deposits (soil/dirt/rocks) from adjacent areas, but the contractor should verify in the field. The contractor will have to refer to page 19 of the special provision for "clean box culvert".
