Caltrans Wins National Intelligent Transportation Society Award for One-Stop-Shop for Rural Traveler Information Web Application

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology creates efficiencies which support Caltrans’ goals to develop an integrated and reliable transportation system for travelers. Through strategic partnerships between the local, regional, and state agencies, Caltrans continues to find ground-breaking approaches to deliver a safe, sustainable, integrated and efficient transportation system for all Californians.  Our efforts were rewarded on September 9th at the 2014 World Congress on Intelligent Transport in Detroit, Michigan. The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) awarded Caltrans with its top honor in the category of Best New Innovative Practice for Research, Design and Innovation for the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) for Rural Traveler Information project.

The development of OSS came about after extensive research and is a collaborative effort by Caltrans Division of Research, Innovation and System Information, Caltrans District 2, the Western Transportation Institute, and the member states of the Western States Rural Transportation Consortium. OSS is a web application that improves traveler safety by offering real-time travel data for planning trips in California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada. The application provides current weather and traffic information along with traffic cameras, road information, rest stops and points of interest. OSS provided a research platform for the California statewide traveler information website, QuickMap.  Portions of the OSS technology have been integrated into QuickMap. To access OSS, visit One-Stop-Shop.
