Airport-Land Side Interface Improvement

Frank Law

Project Description

Congestion at major airports has resulted from high automobile and truck use by those seeking access to the airport facilities on the highway system.
To improve the interface between the air and surface transportation system, better coordination among stakeholders is needed. This project is developing a prototype intermodal transportation planning tool for use in evaluating potential projects to improve connectivity at airports. Policy recommendations and planning guidelines will emerge from this study for freight and passenger services. Compatible land uses near airports will be assessed according to principles of smart growth. Issues relating to airport employee access and travel will be modeled.
