DELIVERIES & PICKUPS

Section 35703 allows deliveries and pickups on roads restricted by weight per Section 35701: "No ordinance adopted pursuant to Section 35701 shall prohibit any commercial vehicles coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling, or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained."

For more information on the delivery and pickup exemption, click on the California Vehicle Code Sections 35700 - 35722 and read Sections 35701, 35703, 35711, 35714, 35715 (Nevada County), 35715.1 (Tuolumne County), and 35720.

WHICH RESTRICTIONS WERE ADOPTED PURSUANT TO SECTION 35701?

Section 35701 first appeared in the California Vehicle Code in 1959. Section 35701 allows commercial vehicle restrictions on the basis of weight. However, other sections also allow for weight restrictions. At this time, until further research is completed, Caltrans makes no guarantee as to which of the special weight restrictions were adopted pursuant to Section 35701.
