California Department of Transportation

Adopt-a-School

The purpose of the California Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-School Program is to expose students to career opportunities in the transportation industry and to provide tools to ensure their success at school and in the workplace.

Departmental Transportation Planners serve as volunteers to introduce jobs in the Planning field to high school students. The jobs presented are from various Planning divisions, including the Aeronautics, Transit, and Rail disciplines. Transportation Planners make classroom presentations, mentor students, provide opportunities for job shadowing, and conduct departmental tours.
