California Highways with 70 MPH Speed Limits

The California Department of Transportation and the California Highway Patrol will implement 70 MPH speed limits on the following Interstate and Non-Interstate freeway segments. These 70 MPH segments are exceptions to the State's general maximum speed limit of 65 MPH. Autos with trailers and trucks are still limited to 55 MPH as specified in California Vehicle Code 22406.

Interstate Segments

Interstate 5

Grapevine to Stockton - in Kern, Kings, Fresno, Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties from south of Route 99 to French Camp Road.

Stockton to Sacramento - in San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties from one mile south of Hammer Lane to 3/4 mile south of River Bend.

Sacramento to Redbluff - in Yolo, Colusa, Glenn, and Tehama Counties from the north end of the Yolo By-pass to 0.4 mile north of Red Bank Creek Bridge.

Interstate 8

El Cajon to Mountain Springs - in San Diego County from Lake Jennings Park Road to Mica Gem.

Ocotillo to Winterhaven - in Imperial county from Route 98 to Winterhaven Drive (2 miles west of the Arizona State Line).

Interstate 10

Beaumont to Arizona - in Riverside County from County Line Road to the Arizona State Line.

Interstate 15

Escondido to Corona - in San Diego and Riverside Counties from Deer Springs Road to 1 mile south of El Cerrito Road.

San Bernardino to Nevada - in San Bernardino County from Cherry Ave. to the Nevada State Line.

Interstate 40

Barstow to Arizona - in San Bernardino County from Route 15 to the Arizona State Line.

Interstate 205

Tracy to Route 5 - in San Joaquin county from the eastern city limits of Tracy to Route 5.

Interstate 215

San Bernardino to Devore - in San Bernardino County from Route 206 to Route 15.

Interstate 505

Route 80 to Route 5 - in Solano and Yolo counties from Route 80 to Route 5.

Interstate 580

Route 5 to Route 205 - in San Joaquin and Alameda counties from Route 5 to Route 205.

Non-Interstate Segments

Route 99

Route 5 to Bakersfield - in Kern County from Route 5 to Panama Lane.

Bakersfield to Visalia - in Kern and Tulare Counties from Olive Drive to Route 198.

Visalia to Fresno - in Tulare and Fresno Counties from North Goshen to Orange Avenue.

Fresno to south of Madera - in Fresno and Madera Counties from Herndon Canal to 0.1 mile south of the junction of Route 145.

Route 215

Temecula to Sun City - in Riverside County from Route 15 to McCall Boulevard.
