WORK BEGINS ON NEW INTERCHANGE ON STATE ROUTE 99 IN MADERA
MADERA - Caltrans and the Madera County Transportation Commission held a groundbreaking ceremony today to celebrate the start of construction on a new interchange on State Route 99 that will help ease congestion for Madera County commuters.
“Not only will this project benefit motorists for years to come, it will also provide jobs for the Central Valley,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty.
The project will construct a new interchange at Avenue 12 to better accommodate nearly 70,000 commuters daily who drive through the area.
In addition, a new southbound SR-99 on-ramp will be constructed, traffic signals along Avenue 12 will be improved, and Golden State Boulevard and local roads (North and South Road 29) will be modified to improve the flow of traffic. The project is scheduled for completion by the winter of 2016.
The $84 million project received almost $50 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. In total, nearly $15.5 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been put to work statewide.
