NEW SIX-LANE FREEWAY AND INTERCHANGE ON HIGHWAY 99
WILL REDUCE CONGESTION AND SPEED UP GOODS MOVEMENT
MERCED COUNTY- Caltrans and its partners, the Merced County Association of Governments and the city and county of Merced, broke ground today on the $128 million Highway 99 Arboleda Drive Project.
“Highway 99 is a major route in one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “It is critical to the economic vitality of the state, and this project will ensure that the highway is wide enough for goods and traffic to move smoothly.”
The project received approximately $92 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. To date, approximately $14 billion of Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.
The project will construct a new interchange at Arboleda Road and upgrade Highway 99 from a four-lane expressway to a six-lane freeway on a seven-mile section just south of Merced between Buchanan Hollow Road and the Miles Creek Overflow.
The project is anticipated to be completed in late 2015.
