WORK STARTED ON ARRA PROJECT ON I-5 NEAR RED BLUFF
REDDING – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 2 has started work on an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project on Interstate 5 near Red Bluff. The Red Bluff Rehabilitation Project will rehabilitate the pavement and bridges from the Adobe Road Interchange to 5.3 miles south. The project will construct long life pavement and resurface bridge decks within the project limits.
Beginning August 12, 2009, the contractor will conduct saw cutting operations of the existing roadway and pavement replacement operations. Construction will require lane closures and a reduction in the speed limit. Work will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. weeknights for approximately the next two weeks.
The $35.5 million project was awarded to CC Myers, Inc., a company well known for accelerated completion of projects, most notably the recent work on the McArthur Maze in the Bay Area and the “Boat Section” of I-5 in downtown Sacramento. CC Myers plans to accelerate this project with completion anticipated in January of 2010.
I-5 is the north/south transportation backbone for California, providing service for vital goods movement as well as regional and interregional travel. The pavement and bridge deck surfaces on this section of roadway have deteriorated over time and are in need of replacement.
Not only will this road project improve transportation, but will serve as a tremendous boost to the local community and its economy. It is estimated that this project will create as many as 630 jobs, an integral goal of the Recovery Act.
Partners in the project include Caltrans, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Tehama County Regional Transportation Planning Agency.
