THIRD AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT PROJECT IN DISTRICT 2 COMPLETE
LASSEN COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 2 announces the completion of the third of five American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 projects awarded to the District. 13 miles of damaged roadway along State Route 139 near the Lassen/Modoc county line was repaired using an asphalt rubber chip seal made from recycled tires.
“This project not only provided immediate work opportunities in these tough economic times,” said Caltrans Director Randy Iwasaki. “It recycles tires that would otherwise end up in land fills.”
This $1.4 million project, awarded to International Surfacing Systems of Modesto, will provide a tough wearing surface that resists cracking in harsh environments and adds years of life to the roadway.
