The waste stream coming into District 4 has changed greatly in quantity where as there were 12 SWDRR reports from construction projects turned in for 2005, there were 97 SWDRR reports turned in last year from all Construction projects that occured in 2006. The biggest increases were in asphalt and concrete recycling. | |

Although we have had a mixed paper recycling progrma for several years now, the waste diversion program that was implemented in 2006 was a deskside mixed paper and cardboard recycling program. All 2,000 employees in the district office in Oakland received a blue 14 3/8" x 10 3/4" x 15" recycling bin at their desk. And the vendor that we are now using allows the following items to be placed in the bins for the recycle stream which are envelopes (windows O.K.), glossy paper, magazines, file folders, dry food boxes, newspaper, computer paper, phone books, paper back books, and paperbags. It is estimated that this should increase what is being recyled by 65%. | |

The resources we used to commit toward implementing our intergrated waste mangement plan in 2oo6 were monetary funds which went to the vendors like Norcal Waste Services Of Alameda County to handle our mixed paper, cardboard, and beverage container recycling program. As well as the vendors AERC for our battery recycling, Recyclights for our florescent light bulb recycling, and Custom Alloy Scrap Sales for scrap metal recycling. Business Management staff was used to distribute recycle bins for desk-side diversion program.
