Effective August 1, 1998, the Fourth Edition of the Highway Design Manual is officially obsolete. Previously, the Fourth Edition had been retained for projects using imperial units.

The Fifth Edition, which utilizes the metric system of weights and measures, was issued on July 1, 1995 and formerly applied only to metric projects. The Fifth Edition of the Highway Design Manual will be applicable to all projects on the State Highway System advertised on or after August 1, 1998.
