This hypothetical plot of sound level vs. time is typical of traffic noise. The vertical scale shows A-weighted sound levels, while the horizontal scale indicates time. How can we best describe noise levels that fluctuate over time? There is no simple answer to that question. First, it is important to mention that there is no single ideal noise descriptor. In the next slides, we'll see some examples of noise-level-based descriptors.
