Federal Office Overview

This Office's primary responsibility is the administration of Federal Grant Programs that provide funding for operating assistance and capital improvement projects. The Office also provides technical assistance to agencies responsible for public transportation services. Our products help agencies purchase buses, rolling stock and ferries, support rural and urban transit systems, support commuter and urban rail services and waterborne ferry operations, and support demand-responsive services accessible to the elderly and disabled.

Support Functions:

• Publish the policies and procedures for the State’s administration of the programs – the State Management Plan.
• Ensure compliance with U. S. Department of Transportation, Title 49 Code of Federal Regulation Part 26, which sets forth requirements for participation by disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE) in federal transit funding programs.
• Provide training and technical assistance or other support services tailored to meet the specific needs of transit operators in non-urbanized areas in conjunction with the State's administration of the Section 5311 program – the Rural Transit Assistance Program.
• Deliver the Division’s procurement program for public agencies and private non-profit organizations.
• Promote Transit Safety and Security.
• Ensure the Division maintains itself or delegates responsibilities to small urbanized areas as the Governor’s FTA Section 5309 (Urbanized Area Formula Grants) designee.
