Olancha - Cartago 4 Lane Project Need

Why do we need this project?

The existing road is two lanes: two 12-foot lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Double-yellow lines throughout this segment restrict vehicles from passing one another, so traffic lines up behind slower-moving vehicles and can become backed up at peak times, resulting in unsafe passing and increased traveler delay. Over time, traffic volume is expected to increase, making this situation worse.

In addition, each end of the two-lane segment (at the north and south limits) connects to a four-lane divided road, so four-lane traffic must merge down to two lanes through this area. Completion of the proposed project would result in a continuous four-lane road all the way.
