Marin-Sonoma Narrows US 101 HOV Widening Project
Caltrans and its partner agencies, Transportation Authority of Marin and Sonoma County Transportation Authority, celebrate the Ribbon Cutting of the HOV lane widening on US 101. The area is commonly referred to as the “Narrows”, as the highway currently narrows from 3 to 2 lanes. The project widens the roadway from 2 to 3 lanes in each direction. The new roadway will includes HOV lanes that will connect with existing and future HOV lanes.

Caltrans District 4 - 56 Hours and 45 Minutes to Success
Caltrans reached a major milestone when it successfully completed Phase I of the Presidio Parkway project to replace the seismically deficient Doyle Drive.
This video chronicles the history of Doyle Drive and explains the Presidio Parkway project, with special focus on the weekend closure and marathon demolition work necessary to open the seismically safe temporary bypass, marking the completion of Phase I construction. This milestone made the way for Phase II construction to begin.

Caltrans Demolishes Seismically Unsafe Doyle Drive Over a Weekend and Re-Opens the New Safe Route to Traffic in Less Than 57 Hours
Caltrans replaced the structure with a temporary bypass and open the new seismically safe bridge and tunnel to traffic. The demolition began Friday evening on April 27, 2012 and the new seismically safe structure was reopened ahead of schedule the following Monday at 4:45 AM, less than 57 hours after the demolition began. Caltrans District 4 participated once again in the Heart Walk for American Heart Association held at Lake Merritt, in Oakland, California, as they have for last 19 years. Over the years, hundreds of Caltrans volunteers have helped make this event a success by raising over $250,000 for the American Heart Association.

Caltrans District 4 - Move Over –It’s the Law!
Caltrans District 4 in Oakland with the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate division launched a media campaign reminding motorists of the existing Move Over law originally passed in 2007. When seeing a flashing amber light on an emergency or service vehicle, such as a highway patrol or Caltrans vehicle, the motorists must slow down or move over. Motorists are required to move over to an adjacent lane when it is safe to do so.The motorists not obeying the law are punishable by a fine of $50.00 for the first violation. Additional fines may apply for subsequent violations.

State Route 4 Somersville Road Widening Project Groundbreaking Ceremony
On April 8, 2011 State and local officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the widening of highway 4 from four lanes to eight lanes, including three mixed use lanes and one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction west of Somersville Road to west of Contra Loma Boulevard. The project includes the reconstruction of the Somersville Road interchange, freeway auxiliary lanes, and a median wide enough to accommodate future mass transit.

101 Marin Gap Closure
Caltrans and local officials celebrate the completion of the final four-and-a-half-mile segment of new carpool lanes that closes the gap between existing carpool lanes in Marin County. The project also features a new wider connector ramp from southbound Highway 101 to eastbound Interstate 580 and a new bicycle and pedestrian path.

Tully Road Improvements Project Ground Breaking
Caltrans, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the City of San Jose celebrate the ground breaking event on US 101, Tully Road Improvements Project. Some of the many improvements on the project include constructing one additional lane on Southbound US 101 from Story Road, modifying the interchange at Tully Road to a partial cloverleaf and replacing the existing Tully Road over crossing.

Hunter Hill Safety Roadside Rest Area Grand Re-Opening. ( March 1, 2011 )
With its panoramic bay area views, the Hunter Hill rest area, north of Vallejo, on Interstate 80 has reopened. Caltrans rebuilt the 41 year old facility to make it accessible to handicapped travelers. Added features include a designated dog-walking area, more rest-rooms and a California Highway Patrol " drop-in " office for greater patrol presence.
