The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the City of Vallejo, and several other Vallejo area agencies are partnering together in trash pick-up and major maintenance on highly visible entrances and thoroughfares through the city of Vallejo which include the state routes; Interstate 80, Highway 37, Highway 29 (Sonoma Boulevard), and Interstate 780.

Members of the partnership include: Caltrans, the City of Vallejo, Greater Vallejo Recreational District (GVRD), Vallejo Sanitation Flood Control District (VSFCD), Solano County Sheriff’s Department, Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD), the California Maritime Academy (CMA), and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

The partnership started in the fall of 2012 after several agencies agreed to work together and improve the appearances of some highly traveled areas throughout Vallejo. The group works collaboratively to pick up trash, trim trees and bush, and other maintenance activities to make entrances and roadways attractive to motorists, citizens, businesses, and visitors.

The VIP program also raises community “clean” awareness and promotes volunteer programs such as the Caltrans Adopt A Highway program which offer community members the opportunity to pitch-in by picking-up litter and weed abatement on state routes while receiving logistic support and safety training.

The VIP program was nominated for the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) “2013 Partnership of the Year” award.
