Highway 29 St. Helena Channelization Project
The Highway 29 Channelization Project will rehabilitate the pavement, widen the shoulders, construct a two-way left turn lane, and improve the bicycle/highway/railroad crossing at Whitehall Lane. The project limits are in the Napa County city of St. Helena between Mee Lane and Charter Oak Avenue.
The improvements address existing operations and congestion conditions. This segment of SR-29 is heavily traveled by both locals and visitors and is congested on both weekends and weekday peak hours.
The project will ease congestion, improve mobility, decrease commute times for all drivers, reduce air pollution, as well as improve safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians along this 3mile segment of Highway 29.
Traffic during work:
The project may require some daytime one-way traffic controls during construction. One lane in each northbound and southbound direction of Highway 29 would be open at all times. In the event of lane closures, motorists will need to plan for delays and if possible take alternate routes on local roads in the St. Helena area. Caltrans will notify the public of scheduled closures and any detour routes.
Highway construction work started in spring 2015 and will be tentatively completed in early 2017.
