HWY 17 PAVEMENT REHAB BEGINS TONIGHT IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY
Granite Construction will begin work tonight on the Santa Clara County portion of northbound Highway 17 in order to prepare the road for paving. Crews will close sections of the each lane in the seven-mile stretch between the summit and Highway 9 in Los Gatos from 8 PM until 5 AM Sunday through Thursday nights to remove plastic striping. Once the striping is removed, paving may commence.
When the right lane is completed, crews will return to conduct the same operations in the left lane.
One lane will remain open for through travel.
This pavement rehabilitation project will occur in the northbound lanes only and is scheduled to complete by the end of this month.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time to travel. Message signs are posted notifying motorists of the work, and the California Highway Patrol will enforce speed limits and construction zone safety measures.
Asphalt needs replacing over time, and the mountainous terrain and weather conditions on Highway 17 require more frequent work. Open-graded asphalt and debris removal from the vents in the median barrier will help improve drainage on the roadway before the rainy season begins.
