DELAY IN ROAD CLOSURE FOR HIGHWAY 1 AT STINSON BEACH

Road now set to close 12:01 am Friday northbound lane to stay open on weekends

Caltrans has announced a one-day delay for the closure of a portion of Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach.

The closure, originally scheduled to start at one minute past midnight Thursday, October 12, 2000, is now scheduled for one minute past midnight Friday, October 13, 2000.

The section of Highway 1 to be closed is between the northern and southern intersections with Panoramic Highway. Local residents will be permitted to enter the area during construction. Signs will be posted to advise motorists of the detour along Panoramic Highway.

Crews will be constructing retaining walls along the highway. This particular area has suffered repeated damage by severe winter weather. Recent tests showed the area is still at risk from mudslides. Construction of the retaining walls will decrease that risk.

Marin County recently granted approval to proceed with the project. The project should be completed in mid-December.

CLOSURE SCHEDULE:

WEEKDAYS: From one minute past Midnight Monday to Noon Friday, BOTH lanes will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to Panoramic Highway.

WEEKENDS: From Noon Friday to one minute past Midnight Monday, the southbound lane will be closed. Southbound traffic will be detoured to Panoramic Highway. The northbound lane will be open to one-way traffic.
