WORK ON NORTHBOUND 101 HALTED AFTERTRAFFIC BACKS UP
Caltrans crews ended a lane closure project earlier than planned today, when traffic along Highway 101 near San Jose began backing up.
The crews closed a lane along a stretch of Highway 101 near Bernal Road. The road surface is quite rough in this area, and Caltrans had received several complaints about it. The task today was grinding the pavement and pouring concrete. Because of logistical requirements, this particular task could not be performed during the night hours.
The lane closure was scheduled to take place from 10am to 2pm. When the traffic began to get congested, crews were directed to curtail the operation and open the closed lane. The lane was opened at 1:48 pm, and traffic began moving again. Despite the early closure, most of the work was successfully completed.
