Caltrans District 4 Traffic Management
OFFICE OF TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT coordinates work on the freeways and expressways in the Bay Area to minimize the impact of construction and maintenance activities on the traveling public. The Office is located in the Caltrans/California Highway Patrol (CHP) TMC in order to have access to TOS information, the TravInfo section (a private contractor that provides traffic information to the public) and the District Communication Center. The District Traffic Manager (DTM) function under this Office is intended to emphasize the importance of traffic management and to concentrate responsibility to ensure coordination across functional areas and programs. The DTM is the focal point for compilation and dissemination of information to the public with respect to these activities. The DTM prepares and updates the Regional Transportation Management Plan (RTMP) as well as monitors District activities to ensure compliance with the RTMP. The DTM advises Caltrans management on traffic matters, effectively deals wit the public, local officials and elected representatives and proposed changes to District and State policies on traffic handling.
