Effects on Traffic during Daytime Lane Closures on Route 1


As daytime lane closures will be necessary for some of the construction activities on Route 1 (e.g. trenching, signal pole installation), substantial travel delays are anticipated:

Northbound Route 1 - Maximum travel delays for individual motorists could be 40 minutes or longer. Congestion could continue throughout afternoon commute into the late evening.

Southbound Route 1 - Maximum travel delays for individual motorists could be 10 minutes or longer. Congestion could continue throughout afternoon commute.

It is expected that several daytime lane closures will be needed to complete the work at each intersection.

Vehicular and pedestrian movements crossing Route 1 from the side streets will be restricted. Should it be necessary, side streets at controlled intersections will be barricaded and vehicular traffic will be detoured to neighboring streets.

The speed limits near the construction zone will be reduced to 25 mph. Police officers and flaggers will regulate vehicular traffic flows and pedestrian movements when daytime lane closures are in effect.
