SONOMA STATE ROUTE 116/STAGE GULCH ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

• 10/19/11 - Paving along State Route 116 between Adobe Road and Arnold Drive in Sonoma County
• 8/05/10 - Stage Gulch Road will be once again shifting to a new alignment
• 7/12/10 - CHANGES COMING TO STATE ROUTE 116/STAGE GULCH ROAD
• 6/10/10 - STATE ROUTE 116/STAGE GULCH ROAD MOVES TO TEMPORARY ALIGNMENT

Caltrans, in coordination with Sonoma County Transportation Authority, has begun construction that will implement safety improvements on State Route 116 from Adobe Road to Arnold Drive in Sonoma County. This three mile segment of the rural route has seen an increase in vehicle traffic over the years. To improve safety along this highway, Caltrans will:

• Reduce horizontal and vertical curves
• Reduce vertical curves
• Widen the highway to provide standard 8 foot shoulders
• Construct a dedicated, left-hand turn pocket at County Transfer Road
• Provide new asphalt pavement
• Install a centerline and shoulder rumble strips
• Install new retaining walls
• Install new metal beam and concrete barrier guard rail
• Upgrade drainage

When completed in the summer of 2012, the $11 million project will provide a smoother, wider, more streamlined route with better visibility for drivers.

Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures with one way traffic control from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. during the week with longer work windows on the weekends.
