SR-55 Project Timeline & Cost

Project Timeline

Construction of the SR-55 North Improvement Project began in January 1999 and will be completed on schedule in 2002.

How much does all this cost?

The total SR-55 North Improvement Project will cost over $118 million over a three-year period, from 1999 to 2002.

How is the SR-55 North Improvement Project funded?

The primary source of funding for the SR-55 North Improvement Project is the California State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). In addition, the City of Orange contributed $5 million for improvements to Katella, La Veta and Meats Avenues. Beyond this, $21 million for project design and right-of-way acquisition was funded through Measure M, the half-cent transportation sales tax Orange County voters approved in 1990.

The project is managed jointly through a partnership between Caltrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). Together, both organizations are working hard to make the SR-55 a safe and smooth-flowing freeway that will meet our transportation needs well into the 21st Century.
