SR-55 Project Features

  • The SR-55 North Improvement Project is building new general use lanes in each direction throughout the six-mile stretch of the project area. These new lanes, and the widened existing general use and HOV lanes will have a seamless connection with new and existing lanes recently added to other southern California freeways. When complete, you will be able to travel on 18 miles of uninterrupted HOV lanes from the SR-91 interchange to
the I-405 interchange-and beyond, in all four directions!

  • Because local traffic doesn't just exist on the freeway, the SR-55 North Improvement Project also includes improvements to a number of surface streets that intersect the SR-55, as well as the onramps and offramps. At each point along the SR-55 North Improvement Project, there are aspects of the construction that will enhance our ability to move easier, faster, and (above all) safer:

55/91 Interchange

Construction began in 1997 and was completed in 2001.

Lincoln/Nohl Ranch

The undercrossing and the onramps and offramps at Lincoln Avenue and Nohl Ranch Road are being completely realigned, widened and rebuilt.

Meats Avenue

Meats Avenue has received a new overcrossing.

Taft Avenue

The Taft Avenue undercrossing has been improved and widened.

Katella Avenue

The onramps and offramps at the Katella Avenue interchange are being modified and widened, and a northbound onramp is being added.

Collins Avenue

There will be a rebuilt overcrossing at Collins Avenue.

Walnut Avenue

The Walnut Avenue overcrossing was rebuilt and widened.

Chapman Avenue

The Chapman Avenue interchange is being reconfigured and is receiving new onramps and offramps as well as a widened undercrossing.

La Veta Avenue

There is a rebuilt, widened overcrossing at La Veta Avenue.

55/22 Interchange

The rebuilt interchange includes new, wider overcrossing with a new lane in each direction will offer an easier transition between the two freeways. To accommodate the new widened interchange, the La Veta Avenue overcrossing was also widened.
