SR-55 Improvement Project
The SR-55 North Improvement Project
upgrades a six-mile stretch of the18-mile-long SR-55
from just South of the interchange with SR-91 to the
interchange with the SR-22. As of 1999, the junction
of SR-55 and SR-22 carried an average of 231,000 vehicles
per day.
The project will add one new freeway
lane and widen the existing lanes in each direction,
as well as widen the connectors between the eastbound
SR-22 and the northbound SR-55, and between the southbound
SR-55 and the westbound SR-22.
In addition to the freeway improvements,
many of the surface streets that intersect the SR-55
along this stretch are being significantly upgraded,
as well as all their onramps and offramps. The combination
of all these improvements will expand the freeway's
carrying capacity well beyond 200,000+ vehicles per
day that drive this route now.
