The Operations Support Branch
is responsible for traffic census, speed zones, signing
and delineation, accident surveillance, HOV Coordination, Congestion
Monitoring, Operations GIS and supporting the State's legal staff in
claims against the State. We will maintain a liaison with the Federal
Highway Administration, California Highway Patrol and local agencies
pertaining to freeway signing/striping and accidents and safety. We will
serve as expert witnesses in tort liability actions against the State.
It is our mission to plan, improve, manage and maintain a valuable source
of traffic operations related data for internal and external customers. We
will also serve as the final review for signing/striping specifications and standards.

Traffic Accident Surveillance and Analysis System
Caltrans coordinates with CHP and receives State highway related data from their SWITRS, on a weekly basis for TASAS.
This data is integrated with TASAS's own Highway Data Base. Many processses can spawn from this stage.
Among them are our numerous safety programs and projects.
