The San Diego Transportation Management Center (TMC) integrates Caltrans Traffic Operations, Caltrans Maintenance, and CHP Communications in a unified, co-located communication and command center. The San Diego TMC is the "first fully co-located TMC in the State."

Otay Mesa Road Widening project has earned Special Recognition for Excellence in Economic and Trade Enhancement for the year 2002.  The passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is expected to create additional commercial traffic in the area.
