Lane Closure on Westbound I-8 Begins Tonight
EL CENTRO, Calif. –– Crews will begin work tonight at 6 to reduce traffic to one lane on westbound I-8 from a half mile east of East Highline Canal Bridge to a half mile west of the Anderholt Road Overcrossing, according to Caltrans. The construction activity is part of the first segment of the Interstate 8 (I-8) Update project in Imperial County.
The work will involve placing concrete barriers along the 10-mile stretch of highway through mid-February in preparation for a traffic switch later in the month.
Eastbound and westbound traffic will be shifted to the same side of the I-8 during various phases of the project and traffic will be significantly impacted during construction. Speed will be reduced in the work zone. The first segment of the I-8 Update project is scheduled to be completed in two years.
Motorists traveling in Imperial County are advised to plan for delays and to Be Work Zone Alert through construction areas.
