Traffic Switch on State Route 7
CALEXICO, Imperial Co. – Crews will close southbound State Route 7 (SR-7) from State Route 98 (SR-98) to the U.S.-Mexico border for four months beginning Monday at 9 p.m., according to Caltrans. The off-ramp to Nina Lee Road will remain closed.
Southbound SR-7 will remain open to commercial truck traffic. One lane on northbound SR-7 will remain open to all vehicles.
The detour around the closure requires some out of direction travel.
Southbound passenger vehicles will be detoured to westbound SR-98 to Menvielle Road south, to Nina Lee Road east, to Pan American Street east to Rood Road north.
Passenger vehicles and local trucks may continue north on Rood Road to Maggio Road west to access northbound SR-7.
Local passenger vehicles may continue on southbound SR-7 to Maggio Road, to Rood Road south, to Carr Road west and then to Nina Lee Road north or south.
Several detour signs will be posted through the closure. It is recommended that all motorists follow the posted detours to reach their destination.
The traffic switch marks Stage 3 of a $11.4 million re-pavement project on SR-7 located about seven miles east of Calexico and a half mile north of the U.S.-Mexico border to SR-98. Crews have completed paving northbound SR-7 in Stages 1 and 2 and are moving work to the southbound direction. The fourth and final stage of the project will repave the SR-98/SR-7 intersection. The project is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
