I-15 Express Lanes Thursday Moves
SAN DIEGO –– Caltrans announced that the Interstate 15 (I-15) Express Lanes will be reconfigured every Thursday beginning July 2 to better accommodate traffic patterns during commuting hours.
The barrier-transfer machine, also known as the “zipper,” will start reconfiguring the I-15 Express Lanes early in the morning to three lanes southbound and one lane northbound. At mid-morning, the machine will reverse the configuration to three lanes northbound and one lane southbound. The lanes will be reconfigured with two lanes in each direction during the early evening.
The two-lane reconfiguration will remain in place for the other days of the week.
The I-15 Express Lanes accommodate carpools, vanpools and buses free of charge. Single drivers with a FasTrak® account may also use the lanes. Electronic message signs will alert motorists when the barrier transfer machine is in operation.
