Overnight Closures Planned on I-805 in National City Tonight and Thursday
SAN DIEGO –– Caltrans reported that lane and ramp closures will be in place along Interstate 805 (I-805) between State Route 54 (SR-54) and East Plaza Boulevard in National City this week to accommodate electrical and paving work, as part of the East Plaza Boulevard Auxiliary Lane Project.
Up to three lanes in both directions of I-805, the eastbound and westbound SR-54 to northbound I-805 connector ramps, and the northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp at East Plaza Boulevard will be closed intermittently tonight and Thursday. Lane and ramp closures along northbound I-805 will occur between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and along southbound I-805 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Detours will be in place for motorists wishing to utilize the SR-54 connector ramps and the East Plaza Boulevard southbound on-ramp.
Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on SR-54 who wish to connect to northbound I-805 will be detoured to southbound I-805, exit left on Bonita Road, and then turn left to access the northbound on-ramp to I-805.
Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on East Plaza Boulevard who wish to access southbound I-805 will also be detoured. Motorists traveling west on East Plaza Boulevard will be directed to travel south on Highland Avenue, to eastbound SR-54, to I-805. Motorists traveling east on East Plaza Boulevard will be detoured to travel south on Euclid Avenue to I-805.
Nearby residents can expect intermittent lights and noise during work hours. Construction crews will work to minimize impacts to businesses, residents and commuters.
The improvements under construction at East Plaza Boulevard are part of the first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1 billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. Weather permitting, the first phase of the project will be completed in early 2016.
