SR-54 Connector to Northbound I-805 Closed Nights Beginning Sunday
SAN DIEGO –– Caltrans reported that construction crews will close State Route 54 (SR-54) connector ramps in both directions to northbound Interstate 805 (I-805) beginning Sunday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures could continue nightly through Thursday, weather permitting, to accommodate paving work as part of the I-805 East Plaza Boulevard Auxiliary Lane Project.
During this time, lanes will be closed on northbound I-805 from SR-54 to East Plaza Boulevard as well as the I-805 northbound off-ramp to East Plaza Boulevard.
Motorists traveling eastbound and westbound on SR-54 who wish to connect to northbound I-805 will be detoured to southbound I-805, exit left on Bonita Road and turn left to access the on-ramp to northbound I-805.
Nearby residents can expect intermittent lights and noise during work hours. Construction crews will work to minimize impacts to businesses, residents and commuters.
The East Plaza Boulevard Auxiliary Lane Project will add a northbound auxiliary lane and a southbound outside through lane along I-805 in National City. It is part of the first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project, a $1.1billion effort to create a modern new transportation backbone for South County. Since construction began on Phase 1 in summer 2012, eight miles of new carpool lanes (one in each direction) have been constructed between East Naples Street in Chula Vista and State Route 94 in San Diego, and 10 sound walls have been built to help lower freeway noise and improve the quality of life for nearby residents. In addition, construction is under on a Direct Access Ramp (DAR), Transit Station and Park & Ride at East Palomar Street in Chula Vista. The first phase of the I-805 South Express Lanes Project will be completed in late fall.

Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to Move Over a lane when safe to do so, or slow when highway workers are present with amber lights flashing.
