Caltrans Begins Next Phase of SR-76
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close both northbound and southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) at State Route 76 (SR-76) tonight and Wednesday night from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists will be detoured to exit at the SR-76 off-ramp then re-enter I-15 at the SR-76 on-ramp.
Tonight is the first major closure for the I-15/SR-76 Interchange Project. Construction crews will be doing demolition work on the current SR-76 overcrossing. This work can be noisy for area residents.
This is the final phase to realign and widen SR-76 between Interstate 5 and I-15 to create a conventional four-lane highway. This $25 million interchange project includes a wider bridge over I-15, wider on- and off-ramps, as well as two new loop ramps to I-15. Next fall construction between South Mission Road and Old Highway 395 will begin and be completely open to traffic by the end of 2015.
