Caltrans Awards Bid for Sunbeam Rest Area Project on Interstate 8
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that RSM2 Contractors Inc. of La Mesa, California was awarded the contract for modernization of the Sunbeam rest areas along Interstate 8 (I-8) and the Two Rivers rest area near Calipatria on State Route 111.
Caltrans approved the low bid of $2.9 million which will cover new construction to renovate the rest areas to meet Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) standards as well as establishing drought tolerant landscaping. Work will begin on Sunbeam in October. The entire project will be completed in the fall of 2011.
The rest areas are expected to be closed for about 18 months to accommodate construction for this project as well as an upcoming septic systems upgrade.
