New Bus and RV Length Restriction Signs on State Route 76
SAN DIEGO – Motorists should be advised that motorcoaches and motorhomes exceeding 40 feet in length are prohibited on State Route 76 from Valley Center Road to SR-79, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
New signs have been placed along the highway to remind motorists of the law that has been in effect for the past 10 years. A map of restricted areas on other county highways can be accessed at http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/bus-mh/busmap-d11.pdf.
“Safety is the number one priority of Caltrans,” said Deputy District Director of Traffic Operations Joe Hull. “Buses and RVs must be kept under a certain length due to the curvature of the rural highway.”
The restriction applies only to the length of the bus or RV itself, not to vehicles or trailers being towed behind it. Vehicle combinations have a length restriction of 65 feet. Caltrans recommends that motorists review and comply with the other restrictions of the vehicle code, available at http://www.dmv.ca.gov.
