Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Item 8: REMOVE CONCRETE (RUMBLE STRIP)

Is the concrete rumble strip positioned below the present asphalt surface (as pictured in typical cross sections)?

  • The locations at East Main are as shown in the TYPICALS and as-builts are available showing the original locations of SCORED STRIP.
If so how are they to be located?
  • Visually on the surface, the remaining locations may be below the grading plane and if so can remain in place.
Is sawcutting prior to removal required?
  • No.
Is the void that remains after removal to be filled with asphalt?
  • Yes, the void shall be filled with AC.
If so how is it paid?
  • Payment will be made in accordance with Section 4-1.03 of the Standard Specifications.
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Item 8: REMOVE CONCRETE (RUMBLE STRIP), Plan Sheet L-1 through L-6.

Having visited the ramps this date (03/08/01), I offer the following: Only two ramps have concrete rumble strips visible, they are the two ramps at East Main. Are these rumble strips reinforced?

  • There is no indication by as-builts or methods at the time of the original construction that there would indicate the use of reinforcement. Consider removal of concrete with no reinforcement.
What is the width and thickness?
  • The as-builts indicate a 2' width but the depth is not shown. At other areas in town constructed during the same time period the depth was 4" to 6".
As-builts are available for the existing ramps showing the construction of SCORED STRIPS.
