Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidders Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects.

The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously with the last posting no later than 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right not to answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.

Please verify the size and the type of pipe of the two water lines on the south side of the road. Also, relocating the fire hydrants appear to be moving to the other side of the water line. This requires wet tapping into the line and providing new valves. Same goes for the air vacs / blow-off. The plans are not clear, please verify.

  • A 16" and 10" ACP. Details for wet tapping are shown on sheet U-4.

The plans call out Corrugated Steel Pipe as an allowable Alternate Pipe Culvert but they do not specify a gage or coating. What gage and coating (if required) can be used on this project.

  • CSP does not meet the requirement of SMOOTH INTERIOR.

-Is it a tapered spacer or a rectangular spacer ?
-Are the elbows used to connect the slotted pipe to the inlets the typical 22.3 degree elbow shown on Std Plan D98A ?

I can't find on the plans or in the specs where it  tell me what the acceptable alternates are for the APC.

  • Acceptable APCs are listed in the table on D-10 sheet and most meet the requirements of Section 62 of the Standard Specifications. Of those listed they most meet the requirements of the NOTE: SMOOTH INTERIOR ONLY, which will apply.
