Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on the day prior to the bid opening.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item #32 - Replace Concrete Pavement (Rapid Strength Concrete) Plan Sheet X-1 & SC-7 & 8 & 9


Question= Notes for Stage 3 of the plans states the contract is to perform the following
1) Close Ramp. See Traffic Charts
2) Remove PCC Pavement and AC Shoulder
3) Construct Underdrain System
4) Reconstruct PCC Lane and HMA Shoulder (PCC OVER HMA OVER AB)
5) Cold Plane and Overlay Ramp with HMA
6) Open to Traffic The Traffic Charts only provide a maximum 11.5 hours of ramp and lane closures. This is clearly not enough time in which to perform the required tasks. Can the ramp be closed permanently until Stage 3 is complete or can the State provide an extended Weekend or weekday lane closure to allow enough time in which to complete stage 3?

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Contract Plan Sheet no.s 22 through 24  

Question= The Traffic Handling Sheets TH-1 through TH-3, show ramp closure details for Route 76 which is not a part of this project.  There are no closure detials for the Escondido Hwy O.C. which is a part of this project. Please supply Traffic Handling Sheets for the ramps that are to be closed.

  • The tapers for  the lane closures on I-15 may impact the on & off ramps for SR76. The ramp closures for the SR-76 on ramp & off ramp are provided as an option to facilitate the lane closure tapers on I-15. Traffic handling plans are not required for the Escondido Hwy O.C. Traffic chart #3 provides the details for the closure. (ie place a PCMS in the direction of the travel allowing the traffic the option to use the preceding off-ramp and warning them of the ramp closure ahead).

Question=On Typical Cross Section Sheet X-1, the existing concrete pavement to be removed is shown as 14 feet wide, but the bid quantities for concrete pavement and roadway excavation are based on a 12 feet wide dimension.  Which is correct?
