1 Q:09/12/11 |
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Bid item #94, sheet No. 289: Precast prestressed concrete girder Question= Sheet No. 289 shows precast girder depth as 4'-5". Caltrans standard bulb-tee girder section nearest to this size is 4'-7" deep (1400mm). Please confirm that 4'-7" deep BT girder is acceptable.

2 Q:09/30/11 |
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item # 94, Precast prestressed concrete bulb-tee girders. Plan sheet # 289. Question= Regarding the response to question #1: With respect, if the Engineer wishes to deviate from a Caltrans standard girder size by 2", then please consider making the depth reduction in the top and/or bottom flange thickness, instead of the web. Precasters in this state have invested in steel forms for the manufacture of Caltrans bulb-tee girders. You cannot take 2" out of the web of a steel form. A completely new steel form will be needed for a 4'-5" deep girder, adding tens of thousands of dollars (public money) to the cost of this job. A budget-conscious state government should seriously consider the cost-effectiveness of design decisions. Can you please either reduce the flange thicknesses by 2", while keeping the girder depth at 4'-5", or allow the girder to be 4'-7" deep.

3 Q:09/30/11 |
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Sheet 73 & 74. Joint Overhead Utility. Question= Regarding the location of the Joint Overhead Utility (SDGE 12kv and Fiber Optics) to the east of the bridge, is there a plan to de-energize this line for any period during construction? The current location would severely hampers several operations.

4 Q:10/25/11 |
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item 76 Asphalt Emulsion (Fog Seal Coat), plan sheets 2 and 153 Question= Plan Sheet 2, Note 5
states Fog Seal must be applied to all HMA surfaces EXCEPT traveled
ways and detours.

|
5 Q:11/02/11 |
Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item 147 Concrete Barrier Type 60 Question= Ref. Plan Sheet 44 of 306- Concrete Barrier Type 60C ENRA Line Table.- Sta 851+25 to 851+75 have data that will result in total barrier height less than the minimum 36" called for by Standard plan A 76 series, and are in fact less than the 32" shown for Type 60S on Std Plan A 76 H. Will this be corrected before the bid or after via CCO.
