Question= Should all the existing bridge joints be replaced? Legend #6 shows one location where replacement of type B joint seal is required at the existing approach slab. The qtys allowed for bid items 149 & 150 appear to be for only the N & R approach slabs. Does the left bridge and right west bridge require 40mm and the right east require 15mm? How is splicing to existing joints paid?

• The entire bridge joints will be replaced with Joint Seal (MR 40 MM) at abutments 1 & 3.  Please see the quantity revisions per Addendum #2 dated June 12, 2008.

Special Provisions Sec 10-1.54 The last sentence on this page states, Attention is directed to "Order of Work" of these special provisions reagarding the sequential order of grinding concrete pavement and replacing concrete pavement.

• There is no order of work for this Item. The second paragraph is deleted. Please refer to Addendum No. 1.

Question= Found on sheet number 334 (in the summery of quantities) there is an additional 21.84 M3 of concrete for Bid Item 137 Minor Concrete(Minor Structure). The chart gives nothing more than locations, lengths, and volumes. Is there a detail showing what is to be built at these locations?

• The Minor Concrete Minor Structure quantity on Q-5 (sheet 334) is for Metal Beam Guard Rail Connection to Concrete Barrier on top of Abutment and Retaining Wall and it is associated with the detail shown on C-13 (sheet 60).

Question=Which of the below interpretations is correct? 1) Will it take written permission from the Engineer to deviate from the depicted staging? 2) a. Requested “proposal” is for information only…any costs or time savings are to be retained by the contractor and be reflected in the bid price. b. A change order/crip will be required for the purpose of revised staging plans. As such the State will seek a credit for the associated savings in time & costs.

• Approval from the Engineer is required to deviate from the project staging shown on the plans.  A crip is not needed.

• There are no tieback anchor caps required for the tiebacks.  There is adequate concrete coverage over a standard anchorhead wedge plate for the anchor size we expect the contractor to use.

• The bottom of new footing elevations are shown correctly as elevation 201.900 at abutment 1 and 202.600 at abutment 4.  The CIDH piles should be 75 mm above the bottom of footing as shown on sheet 717.  The bottom of the existing abutment footings are elevation 203.25 plus or minus at abutment 1 and elevation  203.93 plus or minus at abutment 2. abutment 4.

• The straps shown in the details mentioned are required only above and below each tieback anchor.  They are not necessary for the entire length of the soldier pile.  The Contractor is responsible for ensuring that the piles are correctly spaced and aligned in the drilled hole prior to encasing the piles with concrete.
