BIDDER'S INQUIRY FORMAT

Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Only when stated in the Special Provisions will contracts have posted INQUIRIES AND RESPONSES.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously with the last posting no later than 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.
Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.

1	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Item 20: SOIL STABILIZATION, Special Provisions: Section 10-1.24 SOIL STABILIZATION (100 MM DEPTH). Per the typical cross sections there is soil stabilization shown under the DTBB and TBB, how can the soil stabilization be completed under the the rail? The soil stabilization shall be complete in place before the installation of rail.
2	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Sheet C-1, Detail showing location 2 "TBB AROUND DI". The detail on Plan Sheet C-1 shows the requirement for (2) Type SRT Terminal Anchor Assemblies. The Bid Quantity references (1) total. Please clarify. The detail on Plan Sheet 19 of 32 CONSTRUCTION DETAIL C-1 states "TERMINAL ANCHOR ASSEMBLY (TYPE SRT)" which is really Item 37: TERMINAL ANCHOR ASSEMBLY (TYPE SFT) with a total quantity of almost 18 as shown on the layouts.
3	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Special Provisions 10-1.34 CONCRETE BARRIER (TYPE K). Will "Steam Cure" be an allowable process during the manufacture of the concrete barrier? Yes, in accordance with Section 10-1.34 there are 4 allowable methods of manufacture. The Special Provisions reference both Section 12-3.08 and Section 83-2.02(D) which further refers you to Section 90-7.04 CURING PRECAST CONCRETE MEMBERS which allows steam curing.
4	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Special Provisions 10-1.34 CONCRETE BARRIER (TYPE K). Please clarify the requirement of the 1 x 1 meter test panel: A) Can the test panel be examined at the place of manufacture, or will it have to be delivered to Caltrans? B) If so, where will it be the place of delivery? C) What is to be done with the test panels upon approval, including any failed panels? D) Who is responsible for the costs associated with the construction of the test panel? There is no pay method defined for the test panel therefore the work to provide a test panel to demonstrate the color of paint and all arrangements will be done in accordance with Section 4-1.03D EXTRA WORK of the Standard Specifications. The intent of the State is to deliver and place the new concrete barrier in a single move.
5	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Special Provisions 5-1.13 PAYMENTS. Can a partial payment for the CONCRETE BARRIER (TYPE K) be made upon the completion of manufacture? No.
6	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Special Provisions 10-1.05 TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE What are the requirements for the steel wash rack? Bid it as you see it.
