Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

 As was stated at an earlier date. We are unable to complete our take off work on the bridge widening for the Northeast Connector due to the lack of deck elevations being shown on the drawings. We are also requesting that a one week postponement be granted to allow us time to finish our take off and complete pricing work on the bridge portion.

The response to Question 7 states that no construction joint will
be allowed.  It will be impossible to place both the pile and column
reinforcement and concrete the pile within a single 24-hour period.  Will
the requirement to place concrete within 24-hours of rebar placement be
relaxed in light of the response to Question 7? 

  • The response to Question 7 is "No construction joint is allowed below the plane of pile cut-off that is 305 mm below O.G."  A construction joint is allowed at the plane of pile cut-off.  Please provide further clarification including a reference (page and paragraph numbers) for the noted phrase  "place concrete within 24-hours of rebar placement" so that we can respond to your question.

The limits for the cobble stone finish does not show the vertical limits.  Please give that dimension.

  • The upper limit of the cobble stone is shown on TOP OF WALL BETWEEN PILASTERS, sheet R-11, as the bottom of the wall cap.  The lower limit is to extend the cobble stone 500 mm below finish grade.

Traffic charts for I 15 do not allow a full closure.  The specification require no work over live traffic.  What do the specifications allow for the removal of sign structure 3 and the installation of sign structure 4 & 7? 

  •  A no-cost Contract Change order shall be issued to add the charts required for the  removal of sign structure 3 and installation of sign structures 4 and 7.

There are no charts for shoulder closures.  What times are we allowed to close shoulders?

  • A no-cost Contract Change Order will be issued to add the charts needed for the shoulder closures to perform the planed work.

There is nothing in the specifications that show that we can use geodrain in place of pervious backfill.  Are we allowed to use geodrain in place of the pervious backfill.

  • Bid the project as specified per  the plans and specifications.
