District 7 to help those who are less fortunate this Holiday Season.

This Holiday Season, District 7's office and field staff will be asked to support both the Union Rescue Mission and the Los Angeles Mission with a toy and food drive for children, teens and adults in the downtown Los Angeles neighborhood.

Later this month, there will be a cage or box in the museum area near the lobby of 100 S. Main Street for new, unwrapped toys, warm-weather clothing and canned food staples.  A list of suggested items for donation for infants and toddlers, elementary school-aged children and a special request for teenage items will soon be available for e-mail distribution.  A festive kick-off  is planned for Thursday, November 30 at the District Office Plaza.  Watch for details!

The Union Rescue Mission holds shopping days where parents register for three items per child.  The donations are arranged according to age groups and parents choose gifts for their children, which restores dignity to those who could not otherwise afford holiday gift-giving.  Volunteers are on hand during the shopping days for child-care and to gift-wrap.

The Los Angeles Mission staff and volunteers will distribute gifts at their Annual Holiday Dinner on December 22 when a projected 2,000 children will receive a wrapped present at a Toy Tent -- filled with gifts sorted by age and gender.

The generous contributions from Caltrans staff will be delivered to the missions in time for distribution to families this season.
