Executive Honored for Public Service: Diversity is the Key to Success
District 7 Chief Deputy Director Raja Mitwasi was recognized by the American Association of Bangladeshi Engineers & Architects (AABEA) and State Controller John Chiang for his contributions and commitment to public service during AABEA’s Annual Inauguration Dinner on April 4, in Rancho Cucamonga.
State Controller John Chiang presented Mitwasi with a certificate and the AABEA presented him with a plaque recognizing him for his contributions to the public through his work at Caltrans, and his commitment to improving the mobility of goods and people throughout California.
As Chief Deputy, Mitwasi is responsible for the daily operation of the District, which includes 2,600 employees and a $400 million annual budget.
Mitwasi attributed his success to the culturally diverse workforce at Caltrans. “The reason District 7 is the most productive district in Caltrans is due to its diversity, which allows us to adapt to changing conditions, develop innovative solutions to challenges, and strengthens our ability to serve diverse communities,” said Mitwasi. He also said that it is important for the district “to have a talented staff that is reflective of the diverse communities that the district serves in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.”
“In the U.S., we are liaisons from our home country,” said Saleh Kibria, AABEA President, and an 11-year Caltrans Transportation Engineer. As a Bangladeshi-American, Kibria believes that “it is important to share our culture with others and build a strong community bond.”
“Caltrans is a place filled with a world community of knowledge. Together we have and will face some of the toughest transportation challenges in the U.S.,” said Mitwasi “I am glad to be part of the solution.”
