As part of the District's community outreach effort and in support of the Department’s commitment to educational opportunities, all employees are invited to be part of the "Caltrans team" to support the United Negro College Fund's (UNCF) 25th Anniversary Walk for Education – and other great fundraisers during the month of May.

The 5K event will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2007 in Exposition Park at 7:30 a.m.  In recognition of the 25th Anniversary, District Director Doug Failing has agreed to join in the Walk for Education and lead the Caltrans team!  “Many major corporation executives have also committed to lead their workforce in support of this great cause -- financial support for education.  I ask Caltrans employees to provide a strong representation for the Department,” said Deborah Robertson, Deputy District Director for External Affairs.  Please help support the cause.”

“For more than 62 years the primary mission of the UNCF has been to provide support to the 39-member historically black colleges and universities,” explained Robertson.  “The UNCF also provides financial assistance to talented, but underprivileged, students of any ethnic background pursuing their degrees at educational institutions throughout the United States.”
Please consider joining this worthy cause by signing up as a Caltrans team member, and seeking sponsors/pledges in support of the walk.  The Caltrans team number is 2200, and anyone can sign up online at www.uncf.org/losangeles/calendar.asp.  “In addition, a number of fundraising events are planned in the coming weeks,” added Robertson.  “Please come out and support the various fundraising activities.  Have fun while supporting a worthy cause!”
